My 50 favorite films from the past five years
0 comments 5:17 PM Posted by Maryhttp://bornagainredneck.blogspot.com/2009/02/my-50-favorite-films-that-i-watched-in.html
It took me so long to do that post about The Corner 's 25 best conservative movies that I kind of got into movie review mode today. I started out thinking I'd do a post about my five favorite movies of the past 5 years. But, when I looked at my Netflix rental history, I realized that I'd given 3, 4 or 5 stars to over 50 of the 750 movies that I've watched in the past 5 years. (Most got 3 or 4 stars. I seldom give any movie 5 stars.) I don't go to movie theaters because they play the sound s

Kevin Powell on Domestic Violence: Rihanna and Chris Brown

special to NewBlackMan Rihanna/Chris Brown: Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (The Remix) By Kevin Powell Writer's note: Given all the hype and controversy around Chris Brown's alleged beating of Rihanna, I feel compelled to post this essay I originally wrote in late 2007, so that some of us can have an honest jump off point to discuss male violence against females, to discuss the need for ownership of past pains and traumas, to discuss the critical importance of therapy and hea

Judges Sent Juveniles to Prison Receive $2.6 million in Head Count Kickbacks
0 comments 2:22 PM Posted by Maryhttp://eddiegriffinbasg.blogspot.com/2009/02/judges-sent-juveniles-to-prison-receive.html
I have known for some time that certain judges were getting kickbacks for every head they sent to prison. I just didn't have the proof, until now. The juvenile court system in Wilkes-Barre operated like a conveyor belt: Youngsters were brought before judges without a lawyer, given hearings that lasted only a minute or two, and then sent off to juvenile prison for months for minor offenses... Wilkes-Barre judges accused of jailing kids for cash . Luzerne County Judges Mark Ciavarella and M

This gives new meaning to "Kidz Bop"
0 comments 11:13 AM Posted by Maryhttp://ianmcgibboney.blogspot.com/2009/02/this-gives-new-meaning-to-kidz-bop.html
These days, it's difficult for me to enter a library or bookstore. Why? Because I'm bitter. I want to write a book, have it published and watch it rocket up the best-seller lists. And not for vanity's sake, but because a book is one of the few products left that can actually contribute to the betterment of societal intellect. Despite falling sales (or maybe because of it), it seems easier than ever to bleed at the double-edged sword that is today's publishing world. And that's precisely what ir

Writer's note: Given all the hype and controversy around Chris Brown's alleged beating of Rihanna, I feel compelled to post this essay I originally wrote in late 2007, so that some of us can have an honest jump off point to discuss male violence against females, to discuss the need for ownership of past pains and traumas, to discuss the critical importance of therapy and healing. Let us pray for Rihanna, first and foremost, because no one deserves to be beaten, or beaten up. No one. And let us

In "The Subtle Racism of the Republiklans" (9 Feb 09) we explored the viral joke from the inauguration, and the "Proud to be White" letter that's made a new flurry in the blogosmear™. We talked about the sentencing of a man who shot people in a church because he hated "liberals." And we talked about Ex-Klan Grand Googley-Moogley David Duke's enraged response to the GOP electing a "Black racist"as RNC Chair: "To Hell With the Republican Party! ( and subtitled, lovingly, GOP Traitors Appoint Obama
